I suspect it's a little of both. Shills have been going crazy ever since Afghanistan. As far as legit anons.....few people are nearly as awake as they think they are. Purity tests aren't just something the left does. The vast majority of people are only awake as far their beliefs let them be. I see lots of the right wing that still think, sometimes on this very site, that all problems are solely caused by the left/democrats. I see the same thing from the left as far as Trump/Republicans go. Keep in mind that a lot of the right only supported Trump because he ran as a Republican.
