I'm not a big Depp fan, but this is probably his best movie. It's not spinning "satanism" in a positive light, more like eyes wide shut where an unwitting outsider stumbles into the eccentric world of millionaire book collectors obsessed with a rare copy of the ninth gate, a book they believe can conjure the devil. Each of the characters who own a copy are a brilliant representation of the depraved elite who are into this kind of shit. It's actually pretty good, I'd hardly call this movie an endorsement for beelzebub.
