Not sure. I have a boss that is a retired 20 yr US Air Force veteran that is also on the list. The only thing I can think of is that we both have very common names/surnames (both surnames are Irish, so I assume there maybe a connection with the IRA?). I know for a fact that there are over 10,000 people in the US with my first/last names, there are 5 of us in the 75K town I live in.
That sounds plausible. Man that must be pretty annoying, I don't know if we Australians have an equivalent but I've never run into anything like that. Does it affect you much and can you appeal it somehow?
It is only annoying if I want to fly, I need to get to the airport 2 hours early for pre-flight checks. I've flown since, just a pain in the ass. I've heard (from ex-military boss) that once you are on the list, you are stuck there (no way off). I've also talked to someone else that does a lot of travelling for a major lumber/paper company who WAS on the list. He claims to have become 'frequent flyer' and is now off the list. I doubt he is off the list - but his check-ins are now quick and painless.
If you don't mind me asking, what did you do to achieve that?

Sounds pretty frustrating.
