If he was a Christian, that would mean repenting and turning away from evil and following Jesus, if that were so, then he would be washed clean in God’s eyes but a repentant sinner would also seek to do God’s work and make right whatever they had done wrong. They wouldn’t be washed clean of any crimes in man’s world though.
