Need to chime in here…. Small independent pub owner here…. We still offer “chemical free” locally sourced all beef 1/2 burgers, chicken and smoked meats… you can get a sandwich, side and a beer for under $10. Just because the corporate fake food crap is getting out of reach.. doesn’t me you can’t still afford to eat out and get a good value on natural ingredient meals. Please look to support small businesses. We can crush the corporate guys
I think that is a big part of this sudden inflation. It’s comping via the corps. Beef has skyrocketed and it is not due to natural forces. All big business beef is processed through 4 processor mega corps. They are the ones gobbling up the price markups. The rancher is paid the same.
Note natural forces?? Well. … Actually…. Beef has skyrocketed due to the processing plants shut down last year…. Beef takes 18 months from inception to market and we are in the sweet spot where farmers were not breeding due to lack of space. Pork is a 9 - 12 month window as well. You could get piglets for $10 when the plants shut down and some farmers destroyed the young ones due to lack of room to house young ones. Wisconsin farmers are forming their own processing plants to have more control and get more for their animals.
