If you want fast service, you've got to front the cash for the infrastructure to do it. The gov't isn't paying, so the pharma companies pay and pass the cost on to the consumer. This is why your average drug takes 10 years and $2.5 billion to bring from discovery to market. The pharma company pays for the research, and the evaluation from the FDA.
... and then we give the drug for "free" to third world countries and sell it below cost to poor, strapped countries like the EU and Canada who have laws allowing them to demand low prices while our CMS/DHHS can't. <3
