I remember a while back on reddit, they implemented a system that made it harder for bots to verify upvotes. The vote count would change by a few in either direction each time you refreshed. This kept the bots from knowing whether or not they were shadow banned. Maybe this is similar? Not saying that shadow banning is happening, but it could be a way to secure the site from the OBVIOUS infiltration of shills lately.
