My father-in-law had a concoction he brewed up with garlic, hot peppers, tabasco, and who knows what that was preserved in vodka. Served it up in a shot glass. One swallow would cure most anything and curl your toenails besides. I had a lingering ear ache that went away instantly. I should dig up the recipe and share it. Called it a flu-shot.
