I wasn't built for Truman, but was gifted, along with its upkeep, to the US government by the heiress who built it to be a Winter White House. Maybe Truman was he first to use it? Not sure, it has been awile since I read about it.
*It was actually supposed to be used for the Kennedys, but was obviously not, and the Johnsons were the first to use it as a presidential retreat. The article below is quite good, most degrade and distort the history.
No problem, and Town and Country is probably the least political magazine around, so I believe they have a good account of its history. I had never before read that it was intended for the Kennedys. Another interesting "coincidence" that it now belongs to PDJT, and we, the people, don't pay a dime for it, as we would have if it was designated as a national monument as proposed.
Mrs. Post built it w the intent of it being WH2 for Truman, I think.

Thanks for the link. I strive for accuracy but sometimes poor memory wins out.

I’ve read it before. Knew that Meriwether Post was involved (concert venue named after her in MD). Appreciated.
