Oh man, story time. My wife and I, and our two young kids were supposed to move to TN (get out of IL) to start a small family farm in mid August. She had convinced me my name couldn’t be on the new house since I had been unemployed for a bit. Made sense, and I didn’t question it, even though we had over $100k equity in our current house we were putting down on the new one. Her mom got the new mortgage for us, because my wife didn’t make enough money on her own.
At the beginning of June we had gone on a 3-day trip to a ranch in Wisconsin. In mid July, she went back there for a “school project.” Turns out that she had an affair with one of the wranglers from the ranch, and she was planning on leaving me once we got to TN and my name wasn’t on the house, essentially leaving me homeless and penniless. Luckily I found out before the move. I told her mom about the affair, and she stopped the purchase of the new house. In retaliation, my wife took the kids from me.
Unfortunately I wasn’t able to stop the sale of our house in IL, the house my kids grew up in, but I did get my half of the proceeds. I also had a G.A.L. appointed, and she saw what my wife was doing/had done and gave me more time with the kids temporarily.
Now we go through court. I’ve got a ton of evidence of the fraud she tried to commit, and I’m almost positive through recent research and 9 years of marriage that she’s a malignant narcissist, so I’ve got work to do to make sure my kids are safe and taken care of.
That fucking sucks. I’m praying for you and your family. Did you know she was a horrible person before recently or did you just find out after 9 years? You’re strong as hell, that’s for sure.
Thank you. She did a lot of things that didn’t sit right with me, but I didn’t realize they were considered abuse until after. This last year she had me doing just about everything for our kids, our pets, and around the house, and she had me feeling like I was an inch tall. Plenty of other stuff before like sabotaging my business, my parent’s business, isolating me from my family. The manipulation occurred over almost a decade, so I was way too slow to realize.
And the G.A.L. basically investigates who the primary caregiver of the children was, amongst other things, and then makes recommendations to the court based on what is best for the kids.
Why soon to be ex wife? :(

Also what is a G.A.L.
