French Revolution. After an initial promising start was mostly a story of mob violence steered by careful words of surprisingly vicious ideologues and punctuated with a string of hopelessly incompetent Governments. At least until Napoleon went all “I’m the Emperor”
So on and so forth throughout history. Through countless Revolutions, Wars, Dictatorships, Warlords etc.
General Rule of thumb. One person on their own maybe perfectly intelligent and reasonable. But you increase the number of people and intelligence and ability to reason will correspondingly drop.
Modern Marketing also amounts to legalized propaganda and manipulation.
Though we are arguably at a turning point in shaking our current understanding of human psychology. We by and large at least in the West carry the bulk of humanities knowledge around on our hips, in our pockets etc.
It is easier then ever to educate yourself and learn about the world around you. To communicate with others and network. And people are slowly starting to realize this. The past systems of control which by and large were predicated on a set of rules that aren’t necessarily feasible now. Are and have been starting to fracture.
The CCP has been seeing its iron grip on its population
slowly loosen whether it wants it to or not. Hence its draconian crackdowns and institution of increasingly Orwellian laws. Not to mention constant Saber rattling.
The U.S has seen changes to. The domestic powers that be Increasingly look inward towards an increasingly dissatisfied and unhappy population. Who are well aware something is very wrong with their nation. But are by and large still oblivious to what precisely it is.
Western Europe has seen many shakeups. Including shocking resurgent populist movements rapidly rising to prominence in a continent that was formerly fervently opposed to anything resembling nationalism.
The old world and post WW2 world order is slowly but with increasing speed fracturing apart. And our understanding of a lot of things including somethings we thought permanent immovable fact will be forced to evolve and change with it.
