"1776" by McCullough
"His Excellency" by Ellis (about George Washington)
"Anthem" by Ayn Rand
"Economics in one lesson" by Hazlitt and/or "Basic Economics" by Sowell
If you're into murder mysteries, anything by Tony Hillerman- lots of interesting Navajo culture sprinkled throughout, although some people say it isn't very accurate
Or about survival - "Shipwreck at the Bottom of the World" by Armstrong
