Like many of us here, I have been following the open letters written by Archbishop Vigano. I mentioned him recently in an email to someone who says she is a conservative...however, I got the following reply from her, and frankly I'm baffled by what she had to say. What do you all think?
"Vigano is a disgrace to not only the church but also humanity. He lied to the courts. He lied to the pope. He is a thief and an abuser. I'm just glad the courts nailed his little ass."
WTF is she talking about?
All I can say is that she is attributing McCarrick's behavior to Vigano.
Vigano was the one who called out McCarrick in a letter to the Pope.
That was 2006, and nothing was done.
Vigano has done nothing wrong. He retired before he became outspoken, so he isn't even "guilty" of leading away a flock, which is the typical grounds for punishment.
In reality, he's done everything right and in its proper procedure but has been vilified for bringing up the Church's dirty laundry.
This was my thought as well. I think Vigano represents the true church, rather than the corruption that can be found (like in any institution) in other areas of the church. Hard to know, of course.
Yes this is an accurate telling.
