This is anti-1984. The bill aims to give parents oversight of the public school system.
Your reaction was my initial reaction. But remember the patriot act. At the time it was said it was to battle terrorism. These type of bills concern me about Desantis. If he signs, is he a wolf in sheep's clothing.
We cannot allow our children to be filmed 24/7 and grow accustom to it.
You aren't wrong about the Patriot Act, and you're not wrong that we must be vigilant about the "surveillance state."
However, the Patriot Act didn't give anything to We The People. It took our liberties and privacy in the name of safety. This bill wants to give us the same leverage over the schools. Look at who gets access to the recorded footage. This eliminates any "student says / teacher says" disagreements. This makes communist indoctrination more difficult. It makes sexual grooming more difficult.
My litmus test for proposed legislation is to look at who opposes it. Are the Teachers Unions pushing this? Are they vehemently opposed? Are crazy lefties calling it racist? I don't know the answers to those questions, but knowing who doesn't want this will tell you whether or not it's good for the powers the be.
It may be a good thing, just being cautious, as we have been burned many times before.
How would having camera everywhere, recording all day be anti-1984. Big Brother having all seeing eyes is exactly what this is going towards. They say "this is how it is going to be used" just to get them in the door, but once in the door can be used anyway they want. Just like red light and speed cameras are supposed to be for "increased safety."
Did you even read the article? I mean, I get where you're coming from, but which part of the article do you disagree with? To me, this sounds like a way for parents to ensure that the school is held accountable.
