I am a veteran who is in the class of "Special Disabled Veteran". My employer hired me two years ago for a trial position but never informed me that the position was a trial until yesterday. Now they have determined that the position is not needed and have offered me the options of (1) apply for any other open position in the company and interview for it and take any pay reduction that that position holds (there are no positions that I qualify for at my current salary), or (2) take one months severance pay and there's the exit. Do I have any recourse or claim against them?

Right. You need a plan. Ask for the paperwork that shows it was a trial/temp position to see if it really was a misunderstanding. If you sign paperwork it’s on you. If it’s on them they don’t care. Also, many states do have right to fire so don’t try to fight it. I would first see what positions are available and what the pay would be and see if your qualified. I would recommend asking not to apply but request they just put you into one of them if your qualified on paper.
I know your upset. Try to be professional. Try to stay on and at the same time look for another job. This way you still have income coming in. Remember it’s not your business so your 100% expendable. A job is a job. Everyone in there career gets the shaft at some point working for someone else.
