Their shit is the most foul and they do it territorially, in the most blatant areas. And you're right, nothing seems to deter them. I have other animals so can't use toxic chemicals outdoors, but peppermint oils, wolf urine, etc, just don't work. I believe someone else in my neighborhood dealt with them via yourbl Plan B and thank them for it, so I didn't have to. There was a piece of wood on the bottom of my deck doors that had become loose and fallen off, and I had a pack at the door every night, around 3am, when my pets woke me up, clawing though the cardboard used to cover the opening until fixed. They have little fear in packs and I was very concerned they were going to make it through and invade my home because they smelled food inside. Fuck Trash Pandas, they are a menace even in metro areas, but so much worse in rural ones. They are cute (or I used to think), but the only people who think they are sweet and harmless are those who never had to deal with them. Ask them after they injure or kill their beloved pets or cause thousands in property damage.
My favorite neighborhood cat fought off a fox the size of a German shepherd a few winters ago. This cat is fearless. She is getting older and I know I will be crushed when she is gone.I can't even leave food out for her unless dhe is there because it will attract the racoons.
We have rare woodpeckers who love the cedar on our house. What they did was create openings for squirrels to take over the attic. They are in cohoots! That has been secured, but it is ongoing and the wood will need to be replaced at great cost in the spring.. I love wildlife and contribute to wildlife preservation, but I won't allow "cute" rodents to destroy my home.
Raccoon are cool creatures.
