Sign maker here...it's tough to tell from the photos but there could be several reasons. Assuming it's a 4x8 it could be the cost of the frame, which looks like it could be extruded aluminum. Or it could be the rental cost for a month or several months, if it is considered a billboard. If it is not a rental and just a one time purchase, it may be a sublimation print on fabric, and that can get costly. If it's just cut vinyl on an aluminum panel, then it's way way over priced unless you include the frame cost.
I'm almost positive the cost is for billboard rental, especially since you can see it's set on concrete footers.
I bought the sign…5’ x 10’ aluminum, surplus from a local business who rents them as well. They threw in the artwork, delivery and setup. This is Canadian dollars. I did find some brand new signs this size for roughly the same price, but would have had to pay for the artwork on top, plus delivery and setup.
P.S. - the local business was extremely supportive of my effort and my message. There are more of us than we think!
Nice! 5x10 alum would account for the extra cost, along with the frame. Right now I can get a sheet of .063 4x4 for $141, but a 5x10 is $271.31, and out of stock (of course). I would have done the same with the art/delivery/setup! Glad you found a great business to work with. I think every sign shop I've worked for in the past has always been very patriotic. We are everywhere! <3
