Eugenia is the female form of Eugene. Those names have been around a lot longer than eugenics. These types of memes make us look bad.

Francis Galton, Charles Darwin's cousin, derived the term "eugenics" from the Greek word eugenes, meaning "good in birth" or "good in stock." Galton first used the term in an 1883 book, "Inquiries into Human Fertility and Its Development."

Meaning & History English form of Eugenius, the Latin form of the Greek name Εὐγένιος (Eugenios), which was derived from the Greek word εὐγενής (eugenes) meaning "well born". It is composed of the elements εὖ ( eu) meaning "good" and γενής ( genes) meaning "born". This was the name of several saints and four popes.
