That's all I'll say

I'm about to say something that will piss off almost everyone here, but I think it needs to be said.
The parties of the 1860s or even the 1960s are not the same as the parties we have today. So it's unfair to associate them, even if it makes you feel good to associate liberals with the KKK.
It's not that the parties "flipped". They simply changed over time. I see so many comments in places like this saying that the democrats today are all socialists and the republican party are all rinos. Obviously people can see that the parties have drastically changed in their lifetime. But then they want to turn around and say that the democrats now are the same as the 1860s. It's simply hypocritical.
Here are some things to ponder when you want to associate parties from the past to parties now. The Confederacy was almost exclusively Democrats. And it wasn't just the slave owners, but everyday citizens as well. The Confederate flag was a symbol of Democrats. Yet southerners today use the confederate flag as a symbol of their past and heritage. Why?Are they so very proud of the democrats in the past thet they ( who are overwhelmingly republican now) feel the need to fly it?
And when exactly did the south ( which was almost exclusively Democrats in the 1860s and 1960s) switch to largely Republican, as it is today? The same question can be asked about the Northeast, which was largely Republican then but is now heavily Democrat.
I'm not trying to blame the actions of the past on people today. Hopefully you don't use our slavery past to hate on white people or Christians ( who were the predominant people to own slaves). So don't be a hypocrite by using someone's political party. Even if it does make you feel better to stick it to a liberal. It's just hypocritical and wrong. There are plenty of things that democrats are doing RIGHT NOW that they can be called out on without it making you look like a hypocrite.
Alrighty, let's see how many people are going to get pissed off over this. I predict around 20.
On your mark. Get set. Go!
Nobody is holding it against them for merely being Democrats. They're holding it against them because they're virtue signalling and pretending that the Democratic Party has always been some sort of bastion of freedom and diversity when it just isn't true. If anything, Democrats attempt to pin the blame for slavery on Republicans, and use this mythical idea of a "platform switch" to say that we should hate modern day Republicans.
Also, people merely disagreeing with you doesn't mean that they're "pissed" over anything you're saying lol.
But aren't we just as guilty of virtue signaling as they are?
Just look at this comment section and count the number of times people are condemning modern liberals because of what others were doing over 200 years ago.
And look at how heavily the Republican party has leaned on the "Party of Lincoln!" catch phrase. Yet they seem utterly oblivious to the fact that Lincoln established the first federal income tax (and taxing the wealthy at quite a higher rate than others), created the first large federal government departments (the Department of Agriculture I believe), and established government paid higher education (the Morris act, I think it was named.) Does any of that seem like something the Republican party would do and brag about today?).
The truth is that the Republican party of the past is not the Republican party of today. And the Democrat party of the past is not the Democrat party of today. It doesn't mean that the parties simply flipped sides. It's much more complicated than that.
The political parties evolve with the times. Social mores change. Culture changes. Priorities change.
So when anyone, liberal or conservative, tries to associate the parties of the past with the respective parties of now, it indicates a lack of knowledge and education of the matter.
I understand how obnoxious it is for liberals to virtue signal. But it's just as obnoxious for conservatives to do the same. I think the best course of action is not to say "Nuh-uh, you are!!" but to point out that people alive today are not responsible for the actions of people in the past.
The South switched to Republican because the Democrats no longer gave lip service to the Bible, God, and country and embraced infanticide AKA abortion.
The South is also less racist than it was when the Democrats were running the show.
