The 17th amendment stole States' influence on the federal government, making senators not beholden to state legislatures. It was easiliy forgotten by Senators that government, especially the federal government, is a government of limited powers. Then they went out and confirmed totalitarian judges. Constitutional Law should not need volumes of books that explain that "well, technically, and actually, though this government action does not appear constitutional, we are going to play word salad and bigly expand government and shit on the constitution."
