See 289m's comment; but in the historical context, God also wins always there. It just isn't on our timeframe always.

One thought experiment towards this: what would've happened if the Roman Empire hadn't fallen to barbarism? i'm 100% sure the Christian Romans of the 5th century weren't happy with the result in their lifetimes.
