Thanks so much. First because I've been looking for these three documents. Second because the author's point about verbal vs. written knowledge/ authority has been a big concern of mine for years now. FTA:

And because they cannot easily enter into dialogue with the written page, they had little understanding of the sense of power and self-possession that inevitably accrues to those that do. 

This right here is why people are "dumbed down" now, dependent on their smartphones. Literacy demands an electronic device. Aside from all speculation about effects of broadcast energy, this need to have a device to disseminate knowledge is crippling imo. You still need to put the info in a printed form to share, yet you are sharing with non-readers, it all has to be reduced to graphics. Why memes are real weapons. But memes are not deep, and the original digital versions can be edited and distorted by those who control media. Figuring out the truth turns into tiresome rewinding of videos and podcasts and endless arguments over pixel representations. Here we are daily questioning reality which was presented to us as a collection of light flashes.
