Actually, car manufacturers aren’t sued when someone intentionally misuses a car and does something to harm someone with it

Pencil manufacturers aren’t sued when someone intentionally misuses a pencil to harm someone

Why would a gun manufacturer be sued when someone uses it to commit a crime? It’s intended purpose is lawful. Why should they be able to be sued when someone misuses it , for an illegal purpose?
