And doggie nostrils engaged to catch all the spring scents.
Odd thing happened here this winter. Used to be I only heard from meadowlarks in the spring for the most part, but they've been singing off and on throughout the winter. Granted it's been a mild winter, but I've had mild winters before and this never happened. On top of that, my housebarn is surrounded by pastures and they used to stay pretty far out in the pastures, but they've moved into the trees right by the yard. First time I've ever had birdsong around the house in the dead of winter just as if it was full summer.
...wow, that is borderline strangeness with the Meadowlarks behaving like that, we are not fortunate enough to have them here in Ohio, but I just read up on them and they seem to be very interesting beasties....
I love meadowlark song. It's so sweet and uplifting.
A couple years ago I had bluebirds here in very early February when it was cold and snowing. Surprised me.
In the last few years I haven't seen near the grackles I used to, but that may be because I closed off access to their nesting sites around the house and barn because they kept choosing places I didn't approve. They can be kind of destructive.
...spring must be in the air....
and the moon is waxing, full Snow moon on the 16th....

I hope you're right about the possible message.
