Kratom is an herb used for pain management and to keep people off harder painkillers like heroin or similar opiates. It has a mild to moderate pain reducing effect, and can be addictive, but with less overdose potential as compared with other drugs like heroin.
Given how harmful alcohol is while being legal, in comparison kratom seems to have a much more moderate capacity for causing harm, and thus in my view ought to remain legal. Certainly I do not encourage people to abuse the herb, but would like to see more research done on it and think it could be useful in moderation like alcohol can be.
What do you think of kratom and should it be kept legal?
Plant medicine, when extracted and used properly, are more effective than any pharmaceutical.
Don't jump on kratom unless you need to stop drinking or other hard drugs. It's easy to get hooked on it. Should be legal 100% but that doesn't mean it's not potentially problematic.
MIT45 is where it’s at
I don't know why people say it's addictive. I've never had any physical craving for it, and can easily do without it anytime I'm busy, working on a project, etc. I'll go days or weeks without it and don't even notice. For me it's allowed me to stay off all alcohol (which IS physically addictive), pain meds, and antidepressants. I take very small doses and for me, the "buzz" I get is like 1-2 beers. Nothing more. Doesn't make you stupid or zoned out like alcohol and pot. For people who have a tendency to overdo anything, it has a built-in safety: if you take too much, you'll get nauseated. Safest thing out there, as far as I'm concerned.
yeah my experience was similar, maybe we took smaller doses? I've also tried nicotine and didn't find that to be that addictive either tho so maybe it's just not as addictive for me or kratom isn't as addictive for our brains as other people? I also think it's much safer than like caffeine or alcohol - idk if people are doing high doses but it's not like it will destroy you like overdosing on alcohol will.
Kratom also is habbit forming, and must be controlled. Not by government, controlled by the user. This is an opiate cousin, so it does still light up that dopemine receptor, and trashes it over time especially if abused. Not saying its a bad resource...not by any means. This simply isnt as innocuous others make it seem. :D
100000000% Agree, I was by no means trying to vilify kratom, it is a useful tool. But over indulgence can lead one down a troubling path, simply because of the mechanics of the brain, and hormones :D. But I personally have know people to use Kratom to "cold turkey" Fent, and other pills. And it has worked tremendously, but it could be a bit habbit forming too. Because it became a compensation of one for the other, just the other doesnt make you die. And Kratom seems to be easier to "kick" in the long run. :D Leo for Longevity on Youtube has done many interesting videos about opiates and the dopeamine system. Great resource of information on many health topics :D
I agree with this, to me it's kind of like a gun: useful for protection, can cause harm if misused. Use with care and caution. But I think it should be legal, so you can have your own pain medicine available if needed, and to keep off harder drugs for those who fall in to the illegal drug abuses and then risk dying of overdose.
Purchased two small kratom trees in December. They are beautiful.
Kratum is a cure for opiate withdrawals and it's the only cure you will find. I stopped taking Suboxone one day and began using kratum the next day suffering no withdrawal symptoms whatsoever.
Kratom saved my life. So thankful to the friend that turned me on to it.. been off pain pills for 5 years next month and off alcohol about a year after since finding kratom. After struggling with both for ten years.. literally saved my life.
With that said, it can definitely be its own habit but I look at it about like marijuana. If it helps you great, just don’t over do it. If you’re noticing it’s becoming an issue, reel it in a bit.. don’t ruin a good thing.
