I've been wondering that too since the posts started appearing. The 'meta' community lists all the code/dev/bug related talk, there are questions and discussions there which looks like its a new attack type against the site by perhaps a single person with the time to farm up lots of user accounts and create communities somehow with these accounts.
I guess its a different thing entirely to a DDOS attack or a script exploit, but is still pretty clearly intended to damage the site. As for fixes, it appears to that there are efforts at the dev level to close off this problem, ban the person and wipe all the stuff they did but I guess we will see how it goes. Maybe the community change/site-split-off stuff was premature and not well thought out and it can either be fixed, rolled back or done better.
Is the alternative to just give up and surrender? I dont think so.
2 years the site has been up, its gone through many attacks over that time, and this is the latest. If the admins were not serious or dedicated, it would be dust on the wind by now.. yet apparently we are over the target sufficiently to warrant attention of the nasty kind like this.
It probably all ties to what Durham is about to unveil, just as the hysteria about ukraine is ramping up.
My instinct tells me that the original admins were indeed serious and dedicated, but that their real intent was to pose as a MAGA site in order to accumulate the critical mass to become Reddit 2.0 and abandon their conservative façade.

Thinking you can have a MAGA island in the middle of a liberal cesspool ocean and have it survive is a mistake.
It happened at Reddit, and since the originators of this site don't seem to have learned their lesson, it is already happening here.
It does seem to me that what is deepest in the hearts of the admins here is to become Reddit. I wish someone would prove me wrong.

Well your instincts are pretty fucking shitty then because that's Patriots.win
