This is the problem. 30 years ago, most doctors were in private practices. They could make their own decisions about treating patients. Patients had tons of choices of which doctor to see for any specialty or for family practice. In the last 30 years, the 2 major hospital systems in my state have hired virtually every young doctor coming out of medical school, as well as most of the doctors who were in private practices. When a private practice doctor retires, they are not replaced, and the practice closes. It is virtually impossible now to find a private practice doctor of any kind here. They all work for the 2 major hospital chains here and are forced to follow all of the protocols and rules set by the hospitals.
