I’m thinking that the world of publishing is very similar to the film / tv industry. Much of it takes place in NYC, you get your stamp of approval from The NY Times, and you have people like Oprah deciding if you are book club worthy. I’ve been a book nerd since grade school, but it is a shady ass business.

I am involved but nowhere near Stephen King level and with a small publisher out of the south and you are right, it's shady and at my level barely worth the royalty check 2x yearly
