If you go that route, learn how to distill the water. A small bench-scale distillery can be made from copper tubing, a pot of boiling water, and a receptical to receive the distilled water. It's energy intensive, you have to have some kind of fuel to burn for the process. You have to heat the water, cap off the pot so all the steam goes through the copper tubing (it should be in a horizontal spiral), and the drippings from the end of the tubing will be purified and you capture it in a clean receptical like a bottle or bowl.
