Dig a bit.. there was a time when Ukraine pledged loyalty to Russia in order to gain protection from the Catholic King of Poland who was doing the Popes bidding and interfering with the rituals of Eastern Orthodox Church... before that the Ukranians had switched heir loyalties back and forth a few times...
