Anonymous was legit anons (chan board posters) for about five minutes, waaaaaay back in the day.

For years, it's been a false flag used by intelligence agencies around the world. Think Russian Bear hackers. The name lacks meaning outside of propaganda and covert attacks by government spooks and their private industry counterparts.
