Allies in the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) said today that they will not grant Ukraine's request for the implementation of no-fly zones.
"We are NOT part of this conflict, and we have a responsibility to ensure it does not escalate and spread beyond Ukraine,"
NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg just told a news conference..
If they said yes, it would be equivalent to a declaration of war.
It seems fairly common knowledge here, but most people dont understand this point. This is not a NATO fight. Ukraine had 30 years to join NATO. Hell it was even floated that Russia join NATO years back, when PUTIN HIMSELF suggested it half-heartedly around 2000-2001. This is a Russia-Ukraine fight, and for NATO to intervene would very likely trigger, at best, a limited nuclear exchange. Imagine the United States got into an armed skirmish with Mexico over loss of control of the Cartels that required US boots on the ground, and the Russians started pumping in troops and fighter jets.
Sorry two replies to same post; Another not talked about factor is that NATO is probably afraid of showing their ass readiness-wise. I doubt much serious projection of power could be accomplished, except for the US contingent. No point in UK, Germany, etc, showing the world their armed forces are as incompetent as the Russians...
I'm from Europe, but I miss the times when Trump told the European NATO members to pay up their dues. Regarding your first post, you're right, most people don't know this...
