Zed or "Z" is universal, so it suggests that Russia is using a symbol to prevent fragging/friendly fire since the Ukraine and Russian vehicles are very similar in appearance. In fact Russia sold off old tanks to Ukraine, making these literally Russian tanks. So Russians are painting YUUUGGE z's on their equipment, to say "Don't shoot, me bro!"
