No. Putin is not Trump. Putin has no delusions about the state of the world and who is responsible for it. He doesn't care about optics or looking like the bad guy. He's not afraid to say uncomfortable things.

These things are not the same because one of them has the courage of his convictions in a way the other hasn't demonstrated.

Putin?

He is many things. But Trump is not one of them.

For one thing. He isn’t particularly shy about having enemies and inconveniences killed or otherwise eliminated rather publicly as a message.

Trump tolerated his.

Putin isn’t particularly shy about using overwhelming Central Government Force to crush Riots and Protests when he feels it appropriate.

Trump generally refrained from using Federal Forces Law Enforcement or otherwise against domestic riots until he had no other choice.

Putin is willing to tolerate some less Savory Elements. Provided they Obey his rules.

Hence why most of the Russian Oligarchs are still alive.

Trump keeps his hands relatively clean.

Putin cut his teeth in the KGB. Trump in New York Real Estate. Both places were rather cut throat and murderous. But in two radically different ways.

Essentially Putin is more or less a heavy handed Borderline Authoritarian/Dictator. More or less what’s become expected of someone ruling Russia.

Trump is not.
