When the US controlled department of Commerce controlled ICANN I’m sure it would have happened. It Is now one of those multi stake holder bullshit global governance things which will still probably go ahead and cancel but if it’s like the UN I’m not sure if there are key stakeholders like China who can reject and veto what ICANN wants to do. I read Russia was actively disconnecting anyways.
