And didn't the Obummer administration implement the change to make DST a longer period (8 months of DST rather than the previous 6 months each) as an experiment to see if less energy was used? I've never seen the logic in either approach.

The rules for DST changed in 2007 for the first time in more than 20 years.

DST was formally introduced in the United States in 1918
