We would be elated while the majority would be terrified.

I can't imagine what level of threat we will be facing if this ever comes about.

Based on all the past false hopes being raised so high and then dropping into nothingness, a big part of me says this is the kind of rampant optimism that won the Donner Party their place in history.

You have no idea how much I want to be wrong.
