When the Americans liberated the death camp my parents were in, there were 5 families left when the nazis fled. So they survived the death camp.
Also, people were categorized in the camps. They killed the old and sick and needed the young, strong to shovel mass graves and oven ashes. You dont really think nazi guards were shovelling mass graves, do you.
Then too people were transferred from 1 camp to another depending on risk of troops coming near, the size of the facility and what medical experiments they used. They also bled people to death to transfuse blood to their soldiers.
so like, they fled with only moments notice? not enough time to execute that last remaining bit? they got away from the Allies just in the nick of time?
