ok, it seems like a pretty easy answer in my head but I know I am basing it off of my personal hatred for them so I can only claim it as an opinion or speculation, BUT: do our politicians, while at work, have to pay for gas and food and lodging for travel out of their own pockets? or do their respective departments have a petty cash like account to pay for those things? or more specific, the capitol cafe and other government building(s) facility's-do they charge the politicians for the meal or is it just like a credited x amount of meals a month like college? don't judge me, I'm super stoned, and I know there are more pressing things to worry about, but I am really curious about this. please only fact based answers, or personal experience possibly from someone who has once been employed by the government and might know.

Would you prefer that Congress members had to pay for these things themselves, ensuring only mega rich people would be able to live and work as a member of Congress? If the funds don't come from tax payers, where would they come from? What sort of people have the funds to pay for extra office space, internet, technology, and staffing for something that isn't making them money (allegedly) like a business would? It'd be even more corrupt than now, with only the mega rich doing it and using said expenses to write off on taxes as a business expense just to get whatever laws they personally want passed. I know it may not really look better or different now, but the idea is to allow anyone who is elected to serve in such positions regardless of personal wealth or ability to pay such things.
