I don't know what will work for you, but I can tell you what worked for me. When I was a younger man I started having generalized anxiety. It got pretty bad. I won't go into the reasons. Anxiety in my opinion is a tool. Anxiety is the "mini precipice." You must get to the end, to the point at which you just say, "I'm done with this." And you grow from that. It seems hopeless in the midst of it, but you can gain strength knowing that all things end. Everything is transient, even your lifetime. Recognize it is temporary (anything that has a beginning must end) and recognize all difficulties are opportunities to grow and strengthen your body, mind, soul. Above anything you can do, I recommend meditation.
Anxiety is the cyclical chain of thoughts, which most people are bound by, never stopping. There is no space between thoughts, which is why it is so overwhelming. You think of something, you panic about that, that panic causes you panic, you think about the something or the panic, repeat ad nauseam. Sit down, straighten your spine, close your eyes, breathe deeply in through the nose and out through the mouth, focus on the feeling of your deep breaths entering and leaving your body. Keep focus on this the best you can. If you get side-tracked, remind yourself to return to the breath. Do this every single day. Once you experience relief, it will be self-sustaining. It is a skill, and a tool that can never be taken away from you. You will recognize that the peace you find has always been with you, and is yours.
