Before they signed JJ Abrams to ruin the franchise (yet again), they first met with David Fincher.

His vision was darker, and from the perspective of the droids, who were basically fodder and tools/weapons used in the battle of man vs man.

Disney said, NOPEESEE. Can’t package that for the kiddos, and they dipped.
