I’ve got several different kinds. The big heavy white ones (for meat and eggs); and some that are called runners (for eggs); and then the mallards for eggs or meat.
Ducks, depending on the breed will lay for 5-10 years; chickens for three years max.
All my birds are free range in an enclosed pen that is moved every couple of days and are penned up at night. We’ve got coyotes, owls, and hawks that’ll make a mess if they could get to them.
