I'm a bit technologically challenged, but how the heck is Google controlling monetization? Is it if you're using some form of platform service?? It's f'ed up even if it weren't about Ukraine.

This mostly applies to youtube, news sites, and blogs. News publishers are threatened not to publish anything that claims ukraine is committing genocide. Bloggers are threatened not to blog anything against the narrative. And Youtubers are not allowed to say anything against the narrative. wion news recently got banned and there was a huge uproar which led to their account getting restored... ( they are also a big biden supporter, though lately, not so much)

Google AdSense is a system for displaying third party ads managed by Google on a non-Google website. The owner of the non-Google website can earn money from displaying these ads.

Google is not the only company who does this sort of thing, although they are the largest with about 30% of the market.
