When the Russians were in the area, providing humanitarian relief, etc. many Ukrainian soldiers were not wearing uniforms so to show they were not UK military, citizens wore white armbands so the Russians would not fire on them. After the Russians left and the Azov battalion came in, they killed anyone with a white armband, as they saw them as Russian collaborators. There was a two-day lag between Russians leaving and the story of the "atrocities" appearing. No evidence that Russians were involved.
