The reason that I heard about all the mother-less characters in Disney movies is because Walt Disney bought his mother a house that turned out to have a gas leak. Walt sent some kind of maintenance technician who was on Disney payroll to go over to his mother's house and fix the gas leak. Apparently, the guy sucked at his job and didn't seal the leak properly. And then his mother died from said gas leak.

Might just be a contrived sob story, but that's what a researcher who compiled a Disney pedogate type of mini-documentary said about it.
