As to the magic nuclear plasma borers that "There is a patent for so they must exist"-- having a conceptual sketch for a patent does not mean that the machine exists. The patent picture is usually paired with a picture of a team with a conventional TBM (tunnel boring machine) which is real enough but works on a different principle. So far as I have gotten looking for evidence of a working machine that can drill to 10 Km, it seems that the idea may have been taken up in the 1980s by the DoD and disappeared into a black hole. All those stories seem to go back to one interview by one man in 1995, which became viral in many small blogs. His name is/was Phil Schneider. For some reason looking for him led me to this conspiracy group, who apparently worship the Pleiadeans and are expecting a Heaven's Gate type event.
