Brings to mind also the story of the Bronze Serpent on the rod in Numbers 21. God plagues the complaining disobedient Israelites with fiery serpents. When the Israelites are suffering from the awful bites and dying they beg Moses to intercede on their behalf. God hears Moses out then commands he create a bronze statue of a serpent on a rod and lift it up before them. When people are bitten they may look upon the serpent and be healed. God gave them a path for healing.
Then fast forward hundreds of years to 2 Kings 18. Hezekiah is now King, Israel has again been in a bad state with God for some time and Hezekia wants to turn it around. He destroys the high places (idol worship, idol sacrifices) and also the sacred Bronze Serpent whom Israel had begun to burn incense to and worship in place of God.
Here we are thousands of years later. God has gifted us with many science breakthroughs in medicines. We have healed many many sick and hurt people with medicine. But I have noticed that todays society rely heavily on medicine.
Medicine has become the answer to everything. God is 2nd tier. Doctors words are now treated as gospel. Are we worshiping a Bronze Serpent?
And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up - John 3:14
I understand the foreshadowing the symbolism of the story bears on the crucifixion/ redemption of the New Testament but I also think there are many lessons in the Bible’s Old Tesrament where we can see mankind repeating itself in its in wickedness, ultimately leading back to the “Days of Noah” when Christ will choose to return again to pass out judgement.

Bronze serpent is actually a foreshadowing of Christ.
Christ appears as a sinner and is condemned as one, even though he is innocent.
The bronze snake appears as venomous, even though it is actually harmless (bc it is bronze).
