I'm with you, but I feel like reminding the youngsters that back then we didn't all have HD video cameras with tons of storage in our pockets. And there were a lot less cameras around in general.
in 2001 cell phones didn't have cameras. CCTV was NTSC based and limited to 480 lines of resolution. 90% of cameras were still film with the first shitty digital pocket cameras and DSLRs hitting the market with image sizes about 2MP or lower.
The Pentagon would have had the best cameras at the time, which meant a good lens and a Sony-based CCD camera most likely. Anyhow, it's not so much the image quality though as the lack of camera coverage that piqued my interest.
In government security, especially at the Pentagon, there should have been multiple cameras with coverage at the point of impact (POI). To the best of my knowledge, there is only a 1-2 frame clip of a blurry, small object - about the size of a Tomahawk missile - which is known to exist.
I know. I drove by it every day for several years.
