I believe it is probably best to not clean it. Even if it can be successfully cleaned, the appearance as is gives it a desired patina. It is part of its history. You might consider having it preserved and framed.
I like this best...thanks, fren!
How cool! Years ago I bought a 48 star flag at an antique shop for $10 bucks. The flag is huge; 10ft x 20ft! I hang it over my 2nd story deck on patriot holidays. Enjoy your flag! Circa: 1948, 75 yr old flag!
Thank you!
Hey, Patriots...I won this 48 star cotton flag in an auction.
Slightly dingy with a few small stains.
What would a flagfag reccomend for cleaning? Or should I NOT clean it?
Not considering the washing machine... was thinking dry cleaners... Thanks, in advance!
I would spot clean any stains and hand wash in woolite or something along that line. I don’t feel dry cleaners get things clean. When my kids played soccer, I used to wash white uniforms and socks in dish washer detergent. No bleach. It yellows.
Thanks!
Woolite is not meant for delicate items. It's meant for wool which has lanolin in it. It's stronger than most people think.
Keep the patina. It adds character.
If you frame it, you might want to consider glass with a UV coating so that you don't fade it.
Thanks. Was just talking about acid glass w the wife.
Nice piece of history.
