This has also happened because the people are and have been colossally ignorant of our founding documents, our Constitution, their rights, responsibilities and duties. From that pool of people emanate public servants who see themselves as "officials" who mostly do as they please. Their oaths of office are a meaningless formality to them. Since there is no accountability for them, the system just gets worse and worse.
